but to be honest, it could have happened in worse places
I’ve actually already been here longer than planned and then yesterday I replaced the neutral switch on my bike and saw this on my front wheel:
I then checked all other spokes and found more damaged ones. Some have just very small cracks, like the one on the right in the next pictures:
In total I counted 18 broken nipples…
And I can’t blame Honda. These wheels were custom built for me with black Akront rims and thicker spokes. I have never seen anything like that before but I also have to keep in mind that my AT is a bit front heavy with the big fuel tank and the bashplate with toolboxes. And so far I have covered about 100’000 Km with these wheels and I have done some nasty offroad sections without any serious dent in the rim.
Will try to get new nipples from Switzerland and then I’m back on the road.

As one can see, my site is once again undergoing changes. After several complaints from friends about my site I’ve decided to change the theme once again.
In the next few days there should be more changes happening. Hope you’ll like the result.

Just uploaded the route I drove through South Africa. Started in Durban where we picked up the bikes from the harbour in Dec 08 and ends when we left for Namibia on the 12 Feb 09.
One leg is missing; that’s when we had to come across the Kalahari from Namibia to Jo’burg in order to get my bikes rear shock absorber fixed. This leg will be added on an other map. The map opens in a Google Maps and you can play around with it like in Google Earth.
Have fun and klick here to view the map

We have been sitting around in South Africa for a quite a while now. During this time we had a look at some options for our leg back home to Europe. We have come up with following:
- South Africa
- Swaziland
- South Africa
- Lesotho
- South Africa
- Namibia
- and again South Africa because my rear Oehlins shock absorber is leaking oil. The shock can only be repaired in Jo’burg.
- Botswana
- Zambia
- Malawi
- Tanzania
- Rwanda
- Uganda (these two countries will only be visited if we still have enough money left)
- Kenya
- Ethiopia
- (Djibouti)
- (Eritrea)
- Sudan
- Egypt
The countries in brackets will be done if we get the permission to ride through Eritrea. Otherwise we will have to head directly to Sudan from Ethiopia.
We are not sure yet which way we will take from Egypt. Either through Lybia or then Jordan, Syria and and Turkey.
